Mountain Bike world champion uses braces on road to recovery

Mountain Bike 4-Cross and Downhill Champion Cedric Gracia (CG) spectacularly crashed out of the World Cup Downhill semi-final half an hour before the race during practice at La Bresse in France last month.

The 31 year old from Andorra, Spain, who was riding with an existing knee injury, explains: “I crashed into the guy in front of me as I couldn’t stop in time. I lost my front wheel, stuck my leg on the ground and felt the worst pain in my life.”

Knowing that his knee was injured, CG had just started to wear a DonJoy Armor to help protect his knee.

He told us: “Since I’ve been in contact with you guys my life has been better and better! I received the knee brace before I went to the World Cup and after each practice I felt more and more confident even though my knee was totally destroyed. I really think the Armor is the product that all athletes need when they are injured. Without it I really believe I could never line up at the start of a World Cup race!”

CG also hurt his wrist a couple of years ago and has found the DonJoy OTS wrist brace indispensable. “In my case I don't just wear it for racing - I use it every day when I am both training and racing to help protect it from further injury. I really believe that one of the best ways to steer clear of injury is to protect yourself as much as possible.”

CG, who was fourth in UCI’s 4-Cross world rankings last year, hopes to be back in action for the 2009 World Cup.
