DJO Education supports new series of educational events for Senior SEM Practitioners

Professor Nicola Maffulli, Centre Lead, QMUL Centre for Sports and Exercise Medicine (CSEM), has launched a programme of events ‘Sport and Exercise Medicine for London 2012’  in association with DJO Education. They aim to provide senior UK and overseas SEM practitioners, including Fellows and Members of the UK and Irish Faculties of Sport and Exercise Medicine, with a unique forum of high level, interactive interdisciplinary meetings.

“I believe it is vital to have greater interaction between the different branches of SEM and senior practitioners forming the teams supporting elite athletes,” commented Professor Maffulli. “This series provides events that meet the CME needs of these senior practitioners. Each event is delivered as a series of quarterly meetings, each of which is limited to 50 attendees, has interdisciplinary presentations, and is accredited for CPD by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, recognised by the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine. The input of experts from different SEM backgrounds will add to the balance and educational value of each meeting.” As well as providing an educational platform, the meetings offer a rare opportunity for SEM practitioners to share and debate current issues and challenges in one room.

Sitting: Craig Ranson, Giorgio Galanti, Mike Loosemore.

Standing: Nicola Maffulli, Len Shapiro, Jonathan Betser, Ian Beasley, Sanjay Sharma.

Held at the Royal Society of Medicine’s Chandos House, the first two meetings (11th December 2009 and 19th March 2010) attracted an international group of 50 leading SEM Practitioners with speakers from different SEM backgrounds. The inaugural meeting tackled Hamstring Injuries and Hip Pathology (click here for speaker details) while the March meeting focused on Preparticipation Screening and Low Back Pain Management (click here for speaker details). The events have been widely acclaimed by speakers and delegates alike.

The next meetings in 2010 are 18th June (Diabetes in the Elite Athlete and Injury Surveillance in Sports); 24th September (Tendinopathies & Compartment Syndrome/CECS) and 10th December (Anti-doping and Knee Injuries). More information on CSEM-DJO Education events can be found here
