Innovation, education and networking at the 4th ORMEDICUM
A record attendance of 186 orthopedists, surgeons, sports physicians and out-patient managers participated in the week long 4th ORMEDICUM at Quinta da Ria in Portugal between 29th May and 5th June 2011.
Twenty-nine top speakers addressed the delegates on bone and joint disorders over the seven days under the scientific supervision of Dr. Alois Franz from Siegen and Dr. Andree Ellermann from Pforzheim.
As in past years, the lectures also focused on the challenges of managerial and health policy issues. We were delighted that Les Cross, our Guest of Honour, used ORMEDICUM to make his final international presentation as DJO Global’s CEO sharing his in-depth experience of the reforms in the American health system with the delegates, a subject which produced passionate debate.
The ‘theme days’ for knee, hip and shoulder joints saw the presentation and discussion of innovative therapy options with the focus on the patellofemoral joint, the rotator sleeve and arthrosis of the hip. One of the best attended speakers was Dr. Tomas Buchhorn who spoke on the subject of joint and tendon disorders in golf, whose advice could be practically tested on the two adjacent 18-hole golf courses.

Ormedicum was organised by Ormed.DJO which had recently announced the appointment of Frank Bömers, previously the Sales Director, as their new Managing Director. Commenting on ORMEDICUM, he said: “The purpose of ORMEDICUM Conventions is to create an environment for constructive meetings and discussions, with a wide range of networking options and the chance to share knowledge, experience and visions. This year's meeting received an outstanding rating and naturally we are continuing this successful programme with ORMEDICUM 5 in 2012.
