Two trauma societies merge to form ESTES | Autumn 2007

At the first joint congress of ETS (European Trauma Society) and EATES (European Association of Trauma and Emergency Surgery) in Graz in May this year, it was agreed to merge the ETS and EATES societies into one, to form the ‘European Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery’ (ESTES).

With more than 3,000 members covering the whole of Europe, the new Society believes it will have greater potential to significantly influence the European development of trauma and emergency surgery with regard to organisation, education and training, development and research.

A new common board will be elected at next year’s 9th European Congress of Trauma and Emergency Surgery Meeting in Budapest (May 24-27 2008). This is certain to be a landmark event, as it will be the first congress organised by the newly formed ESTES in conjunction with the Hungarian Trauma Society (HTS). Until then the two Presidents and Secretary-Generals of the merging societies will run the Executive working group.
