Successful World Congress on Sports Injury Prevention held in Tromsø, Norway

In June, the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Centre hosted the 2nd World Congress on Sports Injury Prevention in Tromsø, which was attended by more than 700 delegates from 55 countries. Many of the world's leading experts within sports injury and injury prevention were gathered to present and discuss important results and aspects of research into intervention, epidemiology and injury mechanisms. In keeping with the year's Olympic theme, the delegates were shown a video presentation of Tromsø's application for the 2018 Winter Games.

As one of the three main sponsors, we hosted our 'House of Quality Brands' booth at the main entrance of the auditorium which gave us an excellent opportunity to not only meet the many Doctors and Physiotherapists from National teams and OC delegations but also to hear their feedback on our product range.

The scientific programme included five keynote lectures, 19 symposia with 127 lectures, 21 workshops and over 180 presentations and posters of scientific reports from world leading sports medicine experts to young and enthusiastic colleagues. The keynote lectures covered topics from a new framework of studying overuse injuries to new insights into injury prevention ranging from practical models, biomechanical and epidemiological strategies to risk management in sport. Among the interesting new research presented from various sports were a number of presentations with new data from the FIS Injury Surveillance Study, which generated a lot of interest and received positive feedback. During the meeting delegates were invited to a series of social events including a get-together in arctic surroundings and a midsummer experience in a fishing dock. Some learned the real meaning of the 'Land of the Midnight Sun' by joining a mountain hike at midnight in full sun (top picture  taken at 2.00 am).

The Third World Congress on Sports Injury Prevention will be held in Monaco in 2011 and as the President of the IOC Medical Commission, Professor Arne Ljungquist announced, the IOC has agreed to take over the responsibility for organising future Congresses. He thanked OSTRC, its founders, and in particular Professor Roald Bahr, Professor Lars Engebretsen and Dr. Fredrik Bendiksen for their foresight and all their hard work and commitment which helpedcreate this thee-yearly World Sports Injury Prevention Congress.                                                                                                                                                                                                             View from the summit
